On New Year's Eve, Wednesday 31st December 2008, UTV stopped using their Christmas idents and taking their place was a new set of scenery idents, but with the same white background and soundtrack as the Christmas idents. The slogan along the bottom had been changed, however, to "Wishing U a Happy New Year". Some of the scenes in the idents were recycled from the last set which had been introduced in October 2008, however some new ones had also been introduced. These idents were in use throughout the afternoon of New Year's Eve.

New Year's Day, Thursday 1st January 2009, saw yet more changes presentation wise on UTV. The idents that were introduced on New Year's Eve had been tweaked to include a new tagline: "A Happy New Year to U" instead of "Wishing U a Happy New Year". The scenes in the idents remained the same, as did the white background and Christmas soundtrack.

Surprisingly, on Friday 2nd January 2009, UTV retained this new ident set, keeping the white background and grey text from the Christmas and New Year idents. The soundtrack, however, had been changed back to the normal UTV ident jingle and the tagline along the bottom had returned to "It's all about U". Six idents were in use initially, featuring scenes filmed in Greencastle, Silent Valley, Lough Erne, Portaferry, Strangford Lough and County Fermanagh.
