On Monday 9th March 1999, due to a
relaunch of the networked ITV News service, UTV created separate
programmes for its news and features elements of the main evening news
bulletin. Features reports, usually on the topics of health and the
arts, as well as light-hearted stories, were now transmitted as UTV
Life, running from 5:30pm - 6:00pm. UTV Life had its own team of
presenters and reporters, and had a different theme tune, opening title
sequence and studio set to UTV Live. The dual programmes ran together
until Friday 29th March 2002. From Monday 1st April 2002, the two
programmes were again merged into an hour long UTV Live, a setup which
remained until Friday 31st August 2007.
On Monday 3rd September 2007, the UTV
Life branding for the features section of UTV Live returned to on-air
use. The features element had become a separate programme in order to
accommodate a sponsorship deal with Brennan's Bread. The relaunch of UTV
Life saw the programme gain a different theme tune, opening title
sequence and Aston design to the existing UTV Live graphics package. The
studio set remained as it has been before, however the UTV Live logos
had been erased from the backdrop behind the sofa and a new plasma
graphic with the UTV Life logo appeared in place of the UTV Live logo.
Over the following few months, the
programme gradually moved further and further away from the UTV Live
brand, creating their own on-screen graphics package to match the UTV
Life colour scheme of yellow, white and blue. They also use their own
team of reporters, independent from UTV Live, however, they still give a
plug for the programme at the end of UTV Life, informing viewers to stay
tuned after the weather and the weather watchers for the main news of
the day in UTV Live. Frank Mitchell and Pamela Ballantine are the main
hosts of UTV Life, accompanied by Alison Fleming and Siobhan McGarry. |
